Is Steele Cottage haunted?
Rick and Harley Caldwell have lived at Steele Cottage for 42 years. Rick says it is haunted. Harley says Rick used to drink a lot.
When was this house built?
While it doesn't appear in tax records until 1933, we do know it is much older than that.
What else, besides the locked door to the Caldwells’ home, is at the bottom of the steps?
A fun fact...the only indoor cistern in Vicksburg!
What time is check-in?
Or check-in is between 3:00 and 6:00 p.m. If you do arrive prior to 3pm, we can not guarantee your room will be ready, however, please contact us. If we can get you in earlier than 3pm, we will.
Is check-in available after 6:00 p.m.?
Yes. You may use the lockboxes at any time. Please remember that when arriving late, there may be other guests upstairs or downstairs.
How do I get in?
We do not keep staff on site at Steele Cottage. You will enter using the lockbox to the right of the front door and then find another lockbox to the right of your room door. We will send you the codes on the day of check-in.
May I cancel my reservation if my plans change?
You may cancel up until the morning of the third day before check-in.
What time is breakfast? Where is breakfast served?
Breakfast is at 8:30 a.m. at the Duff Green Mansion, 1114 First East Street.
What time is my complimentary tour of the Duff Green Mansion?
Immediately following breakfast.
Is Steele Cottage pet friendly?
Yes! We welcome your furry guest in 2 of the 3 rooms. Our pet friendly rooms are Mrs. Steeles Bedroom and J.M. Swords' Bedroom. Please be sure to select one of those two rooms if you are traveling with a pet.
Where is the pool, and when does it close?
You have pool privileges at the Duff Green Mansion, 1114 First East Street. It closes when other guests complain that you are making too much noise.
What should I do if my TV doesn’t work?
The TVs at Steele Cottage operate through Direct TV. There are usually no problems. If you experience trouble, first turn the TV off and back on. If that doesn’t resolve the issue, please call us at 601-636-6968.
What food is available at Steele Cottage?
We do not provide food at Steele Cottage. We provide water, an ice machine, and coffee for breakfast in your shared living room. Breakfast is included and is served at our sister property Duff Green Mansion which is very near by.
Is laundry service available?
Unfortunately, no. If you do need a room with a washer and dryer, you may want to consider booking Duff Green Suite at our sister property Duff Green Mansion.
